Cheryl Haworth Classic
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009January 27 saw the first ever (and hopefully annual) Cheryl Haworth Classic weightlifting meet at Performance Initiatives gym in Savannah, GA. The 3-time Olympian notes that she was there to compete along side the competition, not against it, in this community outreach event.
Haworth wanted to work at the grassroots level to generate excitement for the sport that means so much to her. The competitors (20 in all) ranged from a 9 year old girl in her first competition, to masters lifters in their 50s, to the strongest female lifter in the country, Haworth.
